The refurbished university building achieved a top position in the ÖGNB certification process
Vienna, 12th February 2015 – The Faculty of Engineering Sciences of the University of Innsbruck which was refurbished by ATP Innsbruck has been awarded a TQB (Total Quality Building) certificate by the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNB). This makes it Austria’s second-best refurbished office building.
The high rise building and ancillary buildings which were refurbished to passive house standards have a HWB of 4.0 and received 917 from 1,000 possible quality points and, in the sub-groups “health & comfort” and “materials & construction”, even achieved a perfect score.
“As the architects and engineers who were commissioned to carry out this complex task we are delighted by the certificate. It is one of the most important Austrian benchmarks for optimal quality in terms of both energy and ecology”, explained architect and project leader Matthias Kröss.
Total Quality documents the quality of a building from design via execution to use in a TQ Building Certificate. The certificate is the end product of the integrated TQ design and evaluation process. The certification renders the quality of a building visible, usable and comparable and this also brings advantages and security to the marketing process.
The sensitive technical refurbishment concept by ATP’s building services engineers is consistent with the existing structure and offers energy savings of up to 85%.
Alongside the TQB Certificate the ÖGNB also awarded the building klima:aktiv Standard Gold with 1,000 from 1,000 quality points. With its specially developed window types for natural ventilation and wind-resistant shading the tower meets the EnerPhit standard for refurbishment at passive house level.
