Concrete Student Trophy 2015
1st and 2nd prizes for interdisciplinary student projects from Vienna University of Technology.
Vienna, 18th January 2016 – Professor Christoph M. Achammer is delighted for his students from Vienna University of Technology: The expert jury of the Concrete Student Trophy 2015 – the tenth edition of the prize for the best interdisciplinary response to a specific brief – were once again convinced by the work of graduates from Vienna University of Technology. The key objective of the competition – which was developed by Professor Achammer together with sponsors from the cement industry – is to support the interdisciplinary development of the students.
Concrete must play an important role in the design and construction of the projects entered for the two-phase, Austria-wide competition. The brief required the preliminary design of a concrete, barrier-free pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Alte Donau as a replacement for the existing crossing close to Angelibad and the Gasthaus Birner at Oberen Alten Donau 47 in Vienna’s 21st district. The jury considered the criteria architecture (visual impression, integration with nature), engineering (functionality, innovation, feasibility) and sustainability (including safety, accessibility, repair and maintenance and the transport concept).
