2012-10-17 Opening of G3

Austria's first "Eco Shopping Centre" opens ceremoniously and presents its unusual architecture which is shaped to fit the landscape.

Gerasdorf, 17.10.2012 –With 58.000 m2 of lettable space and around 180 shops in its 500 m long mall the G3 Shopping Resort Gerasdorf, designed by the Vienna office of ATP Architects and Engineers, is Austria’s fifth largest shopping centre. Now the unusual architecture with its roof in the form of a huge wave has been revealed to the public. The operational start of G3 was marked with a large opening party in the presence of politicians, representatives of the clients and operators, other VIP guests and architects and engineers from ATP Vienna. The high point of the ceremony was a concert by multiple Grammy winner Al Jarreau.

In the words of ATP CEO Christoph M. Achammer: "G3 is a product of integrated design - the simultaneous cooperation of architects and structural and mechanical and electrical engineers – in which function and construction merge in a unique spatial experience and which is also a quality response to the issue of life-cycle in terms of materials and operating costs. This experience is a gift to the shoppers who will see this centre as an extension of their living room".

DI Thomas Jakoubek, Managing Director of the project developers and owners BAI Bauträger Austria Immobilien GmbH spoke about the sustainable concept behind G3: "We are convinced that in opening G3 today we are not simply opening another shopping centre but – in many ways – ploughing a new furrow. Never before has there been a shopping resort of this architectural quality in which timber is the dominant building material and which is flooded by daylight and addresses every aspect of sustainability."
