University Medical Center Mannheim
Operations center with complex hybrid OP facilities
Mannheim, April 2013 – The new OP center of the University Medical Center Mannheim was recently opened and represents a major milestone in the complete rebuilding of the clinic.
The four-story building to the west of the clinic was inserted between the central functional buildings, the children’s center, the orthopedic center, the short-term therapy center and the former clinic building. Another special feature is the state-of-the-art hybrid OP center which had to be integrated into the design of the center.
“The special feature of the Mannheim project was not only the complex technical design, but also the coordination of the various medical disciplines and of their requirements”, explained Tobias Rechenberger, Managing Director of ATP health. “The particular challenge was to do justice to this wide range of requirements while ensuring that the project was not overwhelmed and movement restricted by the technical infrastructure.”
The new operations center is connected with all the neighboring clinics in such a way that the building work had to be carried out during ongoing operations. This demanded complex architectural and technical design which, thanks to the experience of ATP health, was delivered on cost and on budget
The new OP center of the University Medical Center Mannheim concludes the lengthy restructuring of the hospital. APF Architektenpartner Frankfurt (today’s ATP health) won the original construction and ideas competition for the general refurbishment of the clinic as long ago as 1985 since when it has implemented the phased modernization and expansion of the site.
