“On Site”
An architect’s talk organized by aut. architektur und tirol at the completely refurbished Faculties of Architecture and Engineering Science
Innsbruck, 3rd October 2014 – Building work at the Faculties of Architecture and Engineering Science of the University of Innsbruck is largely complete and students and lecturers were able to move back in at the beginning of term. Tyrol’s architecture center, aut. architektur und tirol, marked the completion by staging an “on site discussion” in which the ATP architect Paul Ohnmacht explained the concept and answered questions from interested visitors.
“Refurbishment work is always an interesting challenge for us. In this case we were given the special task of using our integrated design approach to refurbish educational facilities where many of our Innsbruck employees were themselves trained. Our understanding of cooperation between specialist areas enabled us to design a shared campus and invest the concept with our experience as integrated designers” explained Paul Ohnmacht.
ATP sphere, working together with ATP Innsbruck, won the EU-wide open realization-competition for the refurbishment of the two faculties in 2009. As part of this refurbishment project, the two very different building complexes, which were originally built in 1969, underwent highly differentiated facelifts in line with the varying spatial requirements of the two disciplines of architecture and engineering science. The glass façade of the “architecture workshop” has a playful openness whereas the sharp silhouette of the engineering faculty tower has become a landmark for the whole campus. The work also included the renewal of the building services systems and of all security and safety equipment.
