University buildings honored

ATP designed the “Innovative Building 2016”.

Vienna, 28th April 2016 – ATP architects engineers (Innsbruck) had every reason to celebrate at the award ceremony held during the “Chance Innovative Gebäude 2.0” event in the ballroom of Vienna University of Technology. In the name of the project team, the design architect Paul Ohnmacht and ATP CEO Christoph M. Achammer accepted the “Innovative Building 2016” prize for the integrally designed Faculties of Architecture and Engineering Science of the University of Innsbruck.

“Refurbishment is always an interesting challenge for us,” explained the architect Paul Ohnmacht, Head of Design at ATP architects engineers (Innsbruck), “but here, as architects and engineers who have been working integrally together for almost 40 years, we had the special responsibility of refurbishing buildings in which these very disciplines are taught. We were successful in designing this shared campus and allowing our experience as integrated designers to flow into the concept.

This was the second year in which the Plattform innovative gebäude© awarded a prize for the most innovative building of the year. The selection was made from 24 certified buildings which met the platform’s best-practice criteria and had been operating for at least one year. “As the buildings had to be certified and meet the requirements of at least five of our six sustainability pillars, the expert jury gave the architecture pillar a 2/3 weighting and the new and especially innovative concepts of the other pillars a 1/3 weighting in order to reach a decision. The competition shows that sustainability criteria and high-quality architecture can be combined perfectly,” said Sarah Richter, CEO of the umbrella organization Innovative Gebäude Österreich.

The “Engineers’ Tower”, which was completely refurbished by ATP architects engineers (Innsbruck), has been in the spotlight for some time and has already received several awards. Soon after its completion in January 2015 the ÖGNB named it Austria’s second-best refurbished office building, awarding it the TQB Certificate with 917 from 1,000 possible points as well as klimaaktiv Gold Standard with 1,000 from 1,000 quality points.
