A feel-good building ...
Modernization and expansion of the “Haus Liebhartstal” retirement home
Vienna, 30th October 2014 – Vienna’s mayor Michael Häupl declared himself very impressed as he opened the new retirement home with 266 residential units: “The home offers not only the highest level of professional and individual support and care but is also a true feel-good building”.
The extremely low energy building meets the requirements of the “Especially energy efficient building” category, in line with the subsidy guidelines of the City of Vienna.
The architect Hannes Achammer of ATP Vienna explained the concept: “The L-shaped new building and revitalized existing building combine with the attractive open spaces to promote a self-determined quality of life and self-respect for older people. The focus of the design is “living with all the senses”.
As part of the revitalization project the entrance situation was also remodeled. In the light-filled, two-story entrance hall visitors and residents find a “Markt.Platz” with reception, hairdressers, doctors and several public rooms. The new lighting concept, a color-coded orientation system which makes it easier to get around the complex and the timber clad façade lend the building a homely character. Panorama windows with low sills offer even seated residents a view out into the greenery. Another special feature is the “garden of the senses” which aims to support sensory perception and the related activities.
