Ground-breaking ceremony for the Traisenpark
The general refurbishment and expansion enters its second phase.
St. Pölten, 23rd April 2014– After last year’s opening of the new foodcourt of the Traisenpark which, as well as being St. Pölten’s largest area of restaurants, is also the first of three phases of construction, the ground-breaking ceremony has now taken place for the second phase of the modernization of the traditional shopping center.
Phase two involves an extension to the center in the shape of a complete expansion of the west wing. In addition to this, the existing center will be technically and aesthetically updated. A semi-transparent building envelope made from perforated metal and developed by ATP will give the old building a completely new appearance. According to the architect Heinz Lindner of ATP architects engineers (Vienna), “the integrated design process of the new Traisenpark has been particularly eased by the excellent cooperation with the client, the municipality and the responsible statutory authorities. Our joint objective is to use the latest technology as a way of keeping as much as possible of the original building and of refurbishing this to the highest standard. In doing so, our aim is to create a flagship-project for shopping center refurbishment.”
The extension of the west wing is to be accompanied by the remodeling of the former ice rink. Mayor Mag. Matthias Stadler was highly satisfied that the ground-breaking ceremony has taken place: “the TRAISENPARK Team is performing excellent work and I am sure that we will witness the creation of a shopping center that amazes not only the people of St. Pölten.” Managing Director Helmut Gappmayr and Center Manager Anita Bräunlich were delighted. According to Gappmayr: “after the opening of the final phase in October 2015 we will be welcoming 4.5 million visitors a year!”
