Hamburg, 19th October 2022 –The start of construction of “Fruchtkontor Nord” for the food retailer EDEKA, which has been integrally designed by ATP, was marked by a traditional groundbreaking ceremony.
At EDEKA Fruchtkontor at Kleine Grasbrook on the Port of Hamburg, fresh food from more than 80 countries will be delivered, ripened, processed, and packed before being sent to EDEKA and NETTO markets across Germany. The annual capacity will be up to 72,000 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables and around 72,000 tons of bananas.
The new complex is a sophisticated industrial building that will both create a modern working environment for 200 employees and make a statement on behalf of EDEKA at this prominent location. It brings together Fruchtkontor, a banana ripening facility, and packing, storage, logistics, customs, sales and purchasing, office, and social areas.
Particular attention has been paid to sustainable building operations (PV plant, the use of exhaust heat from the cooling plant for heating). The building is completely free of fossil sources of energy such as natural gas. It is designed in line with the EG40 building standard. And thanks to innovative packing solutions, the consumption of materials can be minimized.
