Pula, 7th November 2018 – Max City – Istria’s largest shopping center – has opened in a spectacular location. Visitors will find 76 shops, parking, and an entertainment zone arranged across six stories with a total area of 70,250 square meters
“The exposed location of the project presented us with a real challenge”, said ATP partner and head of design Dario Travaš at the opening ceremony. The construction of the shopping center breathed new life into the former quarry. “In design terms we were able to play with this setting in a number of ways”, explained Travaš, who is also head of ATP’s Zagreb office. “The form and layered colors of the quarry are reflected in the fractured, futuristic form of the center. On the other hand, the large mirrored metal façade establishes a relationship with the surrounding Mediterranean landscape. It provides reflections of the Brijuni group of islands, the wonderful pine forests and the port.”
ATP Zagreb’s integrated design (with BIM) of Max City was based on a masterplan drawn up by ATP Vienna. This paid special attention to the materiality of the idiosyncratic shining metal façade, which combines modernity with Mediterranean flair. In its role as a new tourist magnet the building also provides a visible symbol of the reinvigoration of the Stoja district in the west of the historic port city of Pula.
