magdas has been “SEEN”

ATP receives the BigSEE Interior Design Award 2020 for the industrial kitchen of Caritas Wien.

Ljubljana, 22nd October 2020It’s official: Sustainability is also “tasty” to the eye of the designer! The industrial kitchen in Vienna that was integrally designed by ATP Vienna and ATP sustain for magdas Social Business – a subsidiary of Caritas – has received the BigSEE Interior Design Award in the category “Workplace”.

Why?
magdas focuses on people and offers modern working spaces with a high level of visual, acoustic, and thermal comfort. The modern and minimalist interior architecture is rooted in a holistic re- and upcycling concept. The project involved the upgrade and reuse of easily available, fully functional materials and recycled wood.

Another “recycled” element is the heat recovered from the kitchen and the cooling plant: The retention of this heat in the system means that no additional energy sources are required. magdas has already been awarded gold certification by the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNB) for its role as a model energy solution.

The BigSEE Awards (SEE = South East Europe) were established in 2018. They are supported by the NGO Zavod Big, which is based in Ljubljana in Slovenia and whose aim is to create networking opportunities for and promote creative businesses in the SEE Region. Alongside the BigSEE platform and the “Big Architecture” Festival, Zavod Big is responsible for a range of further culture events – the “Month of Design” and “Design in the City” (12.10.-12.11.2021), “Wood Icon” (15.10.2021), and “Creative Tourism” (21.10.2021) – as well as publishing the magazine Hiše.

Two hours instead of two days
Instead of being handed over at the (cancelled) Big Architecture Festival in Ljubljana, this year’s awards were presented online on the BigSEE platform.
