Successful Refurbishment

SVS Headquarters amongst Vienna’s top revitalization projects

Vienna, 22nd June 2021 –The comprehensive general refurbishment of the SVS Headquarters, which was planned by ATP Vienna in consortium with Hinterwirth Architekten, has been nominated for the Vienna Urban Renewal Award 2021. A prize that honors outstanding revitalization projects, which sustainably shape Vienna’s cityscape.

The refurbishment had become necessary because the SVS Headquarters, which were built in the 1970s, no longer met the needs of a modern Advice and Health Center. The objective of the measures was to improve the working environment of the employees, optimize the spaces to permit more flexible use, and improve the energy efficiency,” said Lead Project Manager Hannes Achammer, outlining the concept. During the course of the project the building volume remained virtually unchanged while the interior was (almost) completely gutted and refurbished and the technology upgraded to meet the very latest standards.

The redesign of the façade not only upgraded the building optically, but also hugely improved the energy efficiency: The cantilevered slab was removed and replaced by rear-ventilated aluminum cladding. Thermal insulation and triple glazing provide excellent thermal protection. The existing flat roofs were replaced by warm roofs with gravel and large areas of greenery.
The general refurbishment has resulted in a modern and uniform headquarters, qualities that are now also reflected in their external appearance. While the new, rear-ventilated, metal façade continues the warm pastel tones of the surrounding late 19th-century buildings, the white frames positioned in front of this façade define the new “rhythm” of the building complex – which refers to a healthy person’s heartbeat.
