Wunstorf, 30th September 2021 – Six spades broke the ground to mark the start of construction of the new building for the Clinic for Child and Youth Psychiatry at Klinikum Region Hannover (KRH) in Wunstorf. After completion, the building of around 2,800 m2 will have two stations capable of accommodating and treating up to 18 children and young people. The health sector specialists of ATP Nuremberg were commissioned to plan the new department.
The building is being constructed to the rear of the inpatient area on Gustav-Kohne-Straße and is optimally adapted to meet the special needs of children with psychological illnesses. “Our design takes up the ideas proposed by the therapists,” says Andreas Rieser, Managing Director of ATP Nuremberg, explaining the central idea. The living, playing, and therapy spaces flow together in the open stations and surround a generously planted therapy courtyard.
In design terms, the planning team placed great emphasis on a harmonious overall image. And, on top of this, natural colors and light-filled spaces contribute to an atmosphere that helps the young patients to build their sense of trust.
The start of construction was preceded by a series of time-consuming and complex design, submission, and approval processes, all of which were mastered thanks to the excellent spirit of cooperation. This was also confirmed by Barbara Schulte, The Managing Director of KRH with special responsibility for finance and infrastructure: Together with ATP’s architects and specialist planners we never took our eye off the ball. This is a great day for KRH Psychiatrie Wunstorf.”
