4th prize for ATP Frankfurt for an office tower and hotel
Premier Inn Dortmund Königswall GmbH plans to build a new office tower with a three-star hotel on the southern side of Dortmund’s main railway station. The design by ATP Frankfurt was awarded 4th prize in the invited competition.
The inward curve of the base expands the urban realm and opens up a dialogue with the library by Mario Botta that faces the site. Well-proportioned volumes and the continuation of the green space as it steps up towards the second floor terrace increase the urban quality of the project. The building is rounded off by a generous roof garden and event space.
Compact cores ensure high levels of efficiency, excellent orientation, and short distances within the building. The entrance area is accentuated by a polymorph, warm metal canopy. This inviting gesture is supported by the folded glass elements of the façade and a fascinating interplay of light and shadow.
The high ecological quality is achieved thanks to the compact volume, high level of airtightness, and elements that meet passive house standards, together with very efficient building services. Solar power is provided by roof-mounted PV modules. The generous levels of greenery boost the biodiversity of the location and sustainably contribute to the passive cooling of the building.
