2nd Prize, limited competition
The requirement of Hamburg’s HOCHBAHN AG was that the new mobility hub should be designed as a forward-looking interchange that would efficiently integrate the various mobility options with leisure and shopping facilities. Our concept for a completely new building type with high experiential qualities was awarded 2nd prize.
Ecological and energy-efficient
The new mobility center symbolizes a “green future” with a range of environmentally-friendly alternatives to the private car. We reinterpreted this idea in our concept by integrating a number of measures that reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions and save and reuse resources. The large amounts of green space not only increase the feel-good factor for people at the hub but also encourage biodiversity and retain rainwater.
Simple orientation
The site of around 19,000 m2 should accommodate a bus interchange and waiting areas, cycle parking spaces, numerous sharing options, and an operating facility for electric buses with workshops for HOCHBAHN. The unique building type, designed by ATP Hamburg, permits the creation of a mobility hub with a high quality of visitor experience and, as required in the brief, simple orientation. A clear structure of individual buildings and open spaces defines the complex as a public center, where a series of services are on offer. The striking façade, with its vertical slats and extensive planting, lends the mobility hub a uniform appearance with high recognition value.
