Industrial Building Prize

Recognition for ATP Munich and Daimler for the AIZ/RZ

The Industrial Building Prize for outstanding industrial and commercial architecture was awarded during the IREM Symposium at Stuttgart University of Technology. As one of four finalists from 55 entries the Daimler AIZ/RZ received an honorable mention in the “building” category. The prize is awarded jointly to building owners and their designers.

The organization of the building was largely determined by the need to separate the technically and functionally independent AIZ and RZ areas. The AIZ, the power train integration center, is a testing center for vehicles alongside which one can find offices, workshops, and storage areas. The RZ, a computer center, is notable for its extremely high levels of energy efficiency.

The Industrial Building Prize was first awarded in June 2016 as a means of recognizing buildings and urban design interventions which exemplify extremely high quality industrial and commercial architecture. Amongst the promoters and supporters of the prize are the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Industriebau e.V. (AGI), the state chapter of the Association of German Architects in Baden-Württemberg, the Chambers of Architects and Engineers in Baden-Württemberg, the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation, and IREM at the University of Stuttgart.
