Foundation Buildings, University of Technology Nuremberg, DE
3rd prize, invited competition
The design by ATP architects engineers in partnership with Baumschlager Eberle Architekten and Büro Happold was awarded 3rd prize in the invited competition organized by the Erlangen-Nuremberg Building Department.
The two foundation buildings are vertical elements that will act as the starting point of the teaching and research unit of the University of Technology Nuremberg. The materials, structural solutions, and design of the buildings will communicate the image of an innovative, climate-aware, and sustainable university. Both volumes are planned using a climate-friendly, hybrid timber-based construction method. The broad range of sustainability measures includes: reusable building materials with high potential for recycling, modular building in order to simplify modification, demolition and, hence, the reuse of materials, extensive greenery to promote biodiversity, the collection of rainwater on the roof, a façade that protects against overheating in summer, and high levels of natural daylight.
