1st prize, private, single-phase competition
ATP Innsbruck has won the open, single-phase competition organized by Holz Pichler AG. The competition sought a concept for the expansion of the production building and the construction of a new business park.
ATP’s design envisages the expansion of the existing production hall along the Eggental Valley. The new volume “docks” with the existing building at ground-floor level and can be flexibly adapted in future – in line with any changes in the production process. The neighboring plot will become the home to a new mixed-use business park: an industrial hall that can be let to companies, a separate wing for smaller crafts-based enterprises, a budget hotel, and office space. The design team has cleverly turned the spotlight on the hotel tower by giving it a prominent location on a roundabout. As a new landmark, the tower consciously plays with the rules regarding building heights and soars above the surrounding buildings, creating a new heart for the complex in the valley bottom.
As the competition was organized by one of Italy’s largest softwood sawmills and an acclaimed manufacturer of technical timber components, the raw material wood was liberally incorporated into the design – in the form of wooden trusses or the wooden slats in the façade.
“The project is harmonious and convincing in terms of both functionality and architecture”, stated the jury in its evaluation.
