Business Center Salzburg Mitte
Honorable mention, EU-wide, open, single-phase realization competition
ATP Innsbruck received an honorable mention in the EU-wide, open, single-phase realization competition for the Business Center Salzburg Mitte. The concept envisages a dynamic building consisting of two parts: A base with industrial flair and a modern office tower with a winding access ramp which is inspired by the movement patterns of the surroundings.
Given that the former bus depot of Obus, the Salzburg bus company, required refurbishment the operator Salzburg AG purchased a new property at the Salzburg Mitte motorway junction. The brief was to create a building complex that offered space for not only the depot but also 13,000 square meters of lettable space. The proposal by ATP Innsbruck combines a large shed with an office tower with the character of a landmark. The Business Center Salzburg Mitte should function as a point of orientation and be regarded by bus passengers as a gateway to the city.
The clear separation between Salzburg AG and the office space is one of the key criteria of this idea. One result of this is that the depot and the office tower have separate entrances while the office and administration areas of Salzburg AG are incorporated into the low-rise volume. In visual terms this has the character of a workshop building with industrial flair. The roof incorporates green spaces as well as a canteen with views over the beautiful city of Salzburg. In addition to this, photovoltaic plant provides covered parking spaces which, according to the jury, generate genuine added value. The low-rise hall with its green roof and occasional building creates a lot of space without overpowering the adjacent residential development. The volumes of the modern office tower and its industrial base slip harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.
