The realization of a pioneering project in terms of the cohabitation of the disabled and able-bodied in an existing complex urban context. The objective was to design an affordable, ecologically sustainable and socially responsible building complex.
The courtyard building form responds to the urban situation in which surrounding buildings of up to nine stories have a powerful presence. The courtyard aims to give the new building an identity with which residents can identify. The mixing of the able-bodied and the disabled is highly desirable and contributes to the very special residential quality. All 36 apartments are continuously open on two sides or enjoy corner illumination. The offsetting of living and dining areas makes it possible to largely avoid the creation of corridors. Story-height windows open the kitchen-diner onto the courtyard whereas the living rooms open to the surrounding district.
