Vienna, 24th September 2020 – Who runs the country’s best factory? This question was asked again this year by Fraunhofer Austria and Industriemagazin. We were delighted to hear that this year’s choice was Handl Tyrol’s new ham production facility in Haiming. The building – integrally designed with BIM by ATP Innsbruck in close cooperation with the project team from Handl Tyrol – was opened in 2018.
In addition to receiving the award for “Austria’s Best Production Facility”, the plant also won the “Smart Factory” title in the “Digitalization” category. The jury particularly appreciated the holistic and comprehensive digitalization concept and the clarity and modernity of the production building.
“It was an exciting competition and we were proud to receive the award,” summed up Christian Handl, CEO of Handl Tyrol, as he thanked all those who had contributed. “The prize is the reward for a success based on a huge amount of commitment and energy. It is a basis upon which we can build, that will give us a solid future, and that allowed all the participants to grow. An excellent example of foresight and teamwork, of courage and cohesion, and of the power of a vision – in line with the motto of doing old things in new ways.”
Prizewinning factory
The modern, linear, and fully automatic facility for the manufacture of high quality ham products underlines the sense of tradition of the Tyrolean company. The prize-winning ham production complex incorporates the production building and a two-story social and technical block. It meets IFS (International Food Standards) and USDA (US Department of Agriculture) guidelines, which not only enabled Handl Tyrol to create an innovative, state-of the-art production facility but also open up better export opportunities in new markets. The ATP-led interdisciplinary design process with BIM was a prerequisite for the planning of the ecologically and economically sustainable building.
