Office Building at Spaldingstraße 77/79-81 in Hamburg
A new building is being constructed on Spaldingstraße in Hamburg, which revitalizes the Hammerbrook district through its multifunctional use. The design by ATP Hamburg and ensphere strengthens the urban identity and brings new impulses to the neighborhood – it was awarded the 3rd prize.

The decades-long neglected district of Hammerbrook in Hamburg undergoes a transformation through new construction – towards an urban, multifunctional, and vibrant meeting point. Our design enlivens the streetscape and breaks the monotonous length, while the multifunctional ground floors activate the space and enrich the district with a new urban building.
Flexibility and Adaptability
A uniform raw construction grid (8.10 m) ensures that the office spaces can respond to different changes in use in the future. A floor plan with different room depths allows for flexible adjustments – for example, for temporary housing or hotel offers.
Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
Photovoltaic panels on the roof supply the building complex with sustainable electricity, covering a significant portion of the demand. Solar-powered heat pumps and geothermal energy ensure resource-efficient heat supply. Green roof areas contribute to improving the microclimate by regulating the ambient temperature. Additionally, the combination of energy-efficient building components and regenerative systems reduces the facility's CO2 footprint.
Three-part building ensemble for Mobility, Coworking, and Utility
The building mass is divided into three houses, with the architectural volume adapting to the surroundings' scale. The buildings are functionally independent, yet form a harmonious design unit. The compact building shape creates well-lit interior spaces and generous public open spaces. The diverse offering on the ground floor creates synergies. The Mobility Hub (House 77) offers bike parking spaces, battery charging stations, shared bike stations, and agile car-sharing spots for switch offers. It also includes a workshop, a café, and a conference area.
The Coworking House (House 79) also houses a gastronomy.
The Utility House (House 81) includes a gym, a kiosk, a parking space, and a multifunctional showroom for internal and external rental.
Distinctive Building
The material and facade concept gives the ensemble a timeless and high-quality expression. A generous concrete prefabricated grid carries the structure of the house outward and supports the character of Hammerbrook with delicate red tones and natural-colored aluminum windows. Large openings allow for large window elements, providing the building with lightness and transparency. The main grid consists of red-colored concrete prefabricated panels, which are executed in two types: smooth polished elements and rough exposed aggregate concrete surfaces in recessed areas.
