Playing with Proximity and Distance

Villen am Ammersee

ATP planned two neighboring villas at Lake Ammersee for two brothers. The architecture of the buildings is characterized by playing with proximity and distance.

The approach to the houses is celebrated in its own way. The space between garages, gate systems, and the actual entrance areas consciously presents itself as a publicly visible park. A carpet of anthracite-colored gravel connects the interior and the exterior.

Upon entering the houses via an accentuated entrance base, a gentle ramp leads into the living/dining areas. This subtle upward movement elevates the living area enough that the presence of Lake Ammersee, located 80 meters away, can be clearly perceived even when seated in the interior. Atriums and openings upwards and downwards create special vertical spatial relationships. Overall, the sequence of spaces highly considers both the location and the residents' needs.
