Senior Residence
Haus Liebhartstal, Vienna
With the conversion and extension for the Kuratorium Wiener Pensionisten-Wohnhäuser, a contemporary residential complex for seniors was created in Vienna-Ottakring, focusing on self-determination, security, and quality of life.

After winning a competition for the Kuratorium Wiener Pensionisten-Wohnhäuser (KWP), we planned, under a Design-Build contract for PORR AG, the renovation and extension of a senior citizens' home in the Ottakring district of Vienna.
The aim of our concept was to enable all residents to lead a self-determined, meaningful, and secure life. In addition to creating a resident- and employee-friendly environment, the focus of the design was to maintain or promote the independence and mobility of the residents.
In particular, sensory perceptions and the associated activities are encouraged by the design concept: colors guide and orient, materials are tangible. The daylight and art light concept creates a positive atmosphere in the building, while plants in the landscaped courtyards and in a dedicated sensory garden support the well-being and satisfaction of the residents.
Due to the designated zoning, the building presents itself as a Z-shaped facility with a functional head at the entrance, which also includes the existing structure. The L-shaped new building is seen as a continuation of the existing residential and nursing home and exhibits a clear architectural structure. Through its restrained design language, it defines itself alongside the existing building.
