Modular System for Clinic
Expansion Building Oncology Center in Zielona Góra
The University Hospital in Zielona Góra is to be expanded with a state-of-the-art oncology center. The design by ATP Krakow is based on a modular, environmentally friendly construction method and was awarded an 'Honorable Mention' in the competition.

The Lubuskie University Oncology Center (LUCO) is a functional addition to the existing university hospital in Zielona Góra. Our competition entry aims to create optimal conditions for patient care and the work of medical staff, as well as new spatial capacities for surgical procedures, inpatient care, and outpatient services. Through two clearly separate construction phases, clinic operations can continue undisturbed.
Modular Concept
The expansion of the clinic campus requires a new functional spatial structure as well as an improved routing at the clinic campus. To efficiently organize the functional areas, we developed a modular, clearly structured grid system for short pathways and flexible use. The emergency departments are positioned along an east-west axis and are visually well marked, facilitating orientation on the complex clinic premises. The facade also follows the modular principle, which facilitates future adjustments or repurposing.

“Green” in Construction and Operation
Designed as a life cycle-optimized building, resources are conserved during the construction and operation of LUCO, while emissions are reduced. Prefabricated construction enables short construction times with consistently high quality of execution. Load-bearing elements such as columns and beams are prefabricated in the factory and assembled on-site.
The building technology is particularly environmentally friendly: Green electricity comes from PV modules on the roof surfaces, ventilation systems, heating, and cooling systems are zoned and energy-efficiently designed.
An independent system for the supply of medical gases offers high operational safety and complies with strict hygiene regulations.
New Center at the Hospital Campus
The striking L-shaped structure and the green ceramic facade give the modern oncology center an identity-creating character on the campus. Vertical structures mediate between the historic stock and the new construction.
The building combines three core medical functions under one roof: a central surgical area, three clinical departments, and an outpatient care area. These are complemented by a hospital pharmacy, a kitchen with bistro, and a dining hall. Diverse green spaces promote recovery and provide moments of tranquility.
