Klinikum Südstadt Rostock
Future-Proof Healthcare Building
With the first expansion of the bed facilities, the Südstadt Rostock Hospital strengthens its role as a central medical facility for the city and region. The new building, planned by ATP Nuremberg, creates modern ward structures, expands capacities, and ensures short distances as well as a patient-friendly atmosphere.

The Klinikum Südstadt Rostock (KSR) fulfills an important medical care function for the city of Rostock and the region. To meet current and future requirements, the KSR has developed an extensive concept of medical and structural development until 2030. The goal is to create modern and efficient ward structures with an adequate number of patient rooms. ATP Nuremberg has been commissioned with the design planning of the 1st bed house extension.
Patient-friendly architecture with efficient wayfinding
The new building is accessed through the single-story main hall, which connects to the existing structure on the west and north sides. Both in the wards and in the endoscopy center on the ground floor, the service areas serve as central meeting points. They are inviting and designed to be easily visible. The facade adopts the main colors of the neighboring building and plays with the existing concept of striping. Wall protection and floors are in bright, friendly colors, accented with wooden elements in the service areas.
The arrangement of the individual wards is clear and efficiently structured, with short distances for staff, patients, and visitors. The new endoscopy area with processing is located on the ground floor. The three upper floors house the admission and short-term care ward, oncology, geriatrics, and additional rooms for patients in internal medicine.
