REWE Regensburg

Second prize, façade design, invited procedure in line with the Design Competition Guidelines

ATP Munich’s façade design for a REWE supermarket is characterized by sustainability, energy efficiency, and the protection of resources as well as its harmonious insertion into the urban context. The recess of one to two meters in the northeast façade and the vertical slats lend the building its customary appearance.

High quality
The slatted eternal skin sets a constructional accent and alters its appearance depending upon the distance of the viewer from the market. Crystalline elements trigger an impressive game of light and shadow. Targeted variations in the vertical structure enable the slats to vary their function: They offer views into the REWE market at points where this is important for the eternal appearance and protect other areas from external influences (such as noise or visual intrusion).

Sustainable
The timber quality of the façade elements meets the requirements for environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. The easily shapeable material Compound is both water- and weatherproof, resistant to UV light in terms of both color and haptic quality, and easy to clean. The CO2 footprint is much lower than solutions involving such comparable materials as concrete or fiber cement.

According to the jury evaluation, “the work combines an urban upgrade for the surrounding area with a good façade structure”.
