“Living on Zentapark”
1st prize, multi-stage invited competition
Having won the competition for the refurbishment and expansion of a building on Zentapark in Vienna ATP Vienna has now been commissioned to realize the project. Between now and 2020 the site will become home to 155 single-person and family apartments as well as the small industrial units that are very popular in the fifth district and a playground for small children.
The requirement for the competition concept was to maximize the well-lit external areas, create a generous semi-public internal courtyard and merge together the new open spaces with the two existing components of the site. Due to the history of the complex, much of our attention was paid to the design of the façade: While the skin of the building had to be retained along the streetfronts our design of the façades to the internal courtyards was inspired by the textile theme. In homage to the former knitwear factory of the Altmann Family we recreated a woven structure of access galleries and balconies. Large amounts of greenery, urban gardening, and a wonderful view of the neighboring Zentapark meets the client’s demands for a high residential and visitor quality.
