Inner-city Shopping Center

WEBERZEILE, Ried im Innkreis

Located in Ried, the WEBERZEILE connects old city structures with new urban quality. As an urban anchor between the old town and the industrial area, the shopping center creates identity and footfall - with architectural finesse and optimized energy concept.

The WEBERZEILE shopping center was planned with the aim of functionally and urbanistically expanding the city center of Ried. The area directly adjacent to the historic city ring forms a connecting interface between the historic old town and the commercial/industrial zone. Thus, the project contributes to the sustainable revitalization and networking of the urban structure. The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) awarded the Weberzeile with the Regeneration Award.

High Sustainability Standards
Thanks to the resource-efficient energy concept with geothermal energy, around 320,000 kg of CO2 are saved annually. The reduction of pump delivery pressure reduces the electrical energy consumption in the heating system by 15%. Ten central ventilation systems provide heating and cooling conditioning. Pressure-dependent variable air volume supply with adaptively guided pressure control minimizes the electrical energy consumption of the ventilation systems.
Large-scale, energy-saving LED lighting and sunshade-optimized glazing reduce the cooling energy demand.

A Strong Impulse for the City Center
The large building volume is divided into a dual complex that seamlessly integrates into the existing city structures: Towards the baroque old town, the building follows the typology of the Inn-Salzach style with a multicolored, permeable row of houses. Outwards from the city, the polygonal large form provides a contrast - as a striking 'gateway to the city center.'

Second "Town Square"
A mall with a daylight-flooded plaza connects the two buildings as an "urban alley." The shops are grouped around this central square and along the recreated city street, lined with colorful shop houses inviting strolls towards the old town. A curved, nearly freely suspended glass roof arches over the entire length of the mall of 70 meters. The high proportion of glass ensures that the WEBERZEILE is mostly bright during the day. Warm, natural materials, light colors, and soft, organic forms support the flowing character of the mall.
