Forest Hospital

Rudolf-Elle Hospital, New Functional Building

The overall complex of the historically significant Waldkrankenhaus Rudolf Elle has served various purposes since the beginning of the 20th century. A coherent and future-oriented concept enabled an optimized operational organization. The sensitive, architectural design meets the needs of both patients and staff, creating a pleasant atmosphere through light guidance, material, and color selection.

The four-story functional building ends below the treetops and gains a special charm through its location. The floor plan appears as a comb structure with a convex main access axis. This leads from the existing bed house node to the eastern supply areas. Individually arranged houses intersect this corridor and open up with courtyards to the southern edge of the forest.

North of the main axis, the individual specialist departments are organized, with administration on the 2nd floor. The functional diagnostics, endoscopy, laboratory, and physical therapy are located in the house cubes. The areas for examination, treatment, and care blend into the landscape through appropriate height development. The buildings with a two-aisled floor plan organization thus receive natural lighting and ventilation. Air-conditioned and artificially lit rooms are only used where necessary. Additionally, a light and color concept facilitates orientation in the building.
