MPREIS Völs

Bakery Therese Mölk and Alpenmetzgerei

On a newly developed business site in Völs, a complex with two production buildings for bread and meat was created for MPREIS, connected via a technical core that integrates and interconnects the respective administrative areas.

Following a complete fire at the existing plant at the beginning of 2011, we were commissioned to plan a new production building for bread and meat for the Tyrolean trading company MPreis.

Facade: woody-crusty & razor-sharp
The two plants, surrounded by a natural alpine flower meadow, speak functionally and aesthetically in two languages: The Bäckerei Therese Mölk with a woody-crusty surface made of spruce shingles intertwines level by level with a common access through a monolithic Technical Building with the metal-smooth Alpenmetzgerei. The latter integrates all areas, including the offices, into a common razor-sharp shell made of bright-annealed, cold-rolled metal panels, while the facade of Bäckerei Therese Mölk lightens its large volume with vertical window strips and offices and confectionery are added on according to an additive principle.

Sustainable Building Services

Building-wise, the production building has some special features. With the integration of alternative energies and a specially constructed combined heat and power unit in the flight path of the airport, the central energy supply of the plant is ensured. 85% of the electrical energy for cooling is saved by room climate conditioning via groundwater. A heat swing was installed between the bakery and the meat works, so that about 75% of the required annual heat demand can be covered. Sun protection measures in the office section could be entirely dispensed with.

Processes

The entire flow of goods of the two productions runs at ground level and linearly with goods receipt in the north and goods dispatch in the south. Employees and visitors enter the building via a suspended bridge. From here, employees disperse through the changing rooms connected to the office wing into the underlying production areas. In order to ensure the desired contact with the office staff, the break areas are located in the same room and are only separated by built-in furniture, a necessary hygiene measure.
