Trier, 22nd November 2016 – ATP health, specialists in the integrated design of hospital buildings, took part in the competition for the Department of Pediatric and Juvenile Psychiatry and was awarded third prize. The task was to design an extension to the mother house of the sisters of St. Charles Borromeo with excellent functional and aesthetic qualities. ATP health connected all the levels of the existing building to the extension as a means of ensuring optimal functional processes. One particular challenge was represented by the location of the building within a historically protected area. Conceived as a contemporary interpretation of a historical townhouse, the design merges harmonically into the urban landscape.
According to the minutes of the meeting of the competition jury, “the design by ATP health is notable for its clear and coherent spatial composition. The relocation of the teaching spaces in an independent basement level opens up opportunities for further development. The volumetric form of the solution for closing the gap in the ensemble is particularly convincing … the open areas created by lowering the complex are extremely user-friendly, especially when considered in connection with the courtyard areas.”
