Mannheim, 30.03.2021 – ABB, ATP Frankfurt, and the contractor celebrated the start of construction of ABB’s new facility in Mannheim with the help of a digger and eight shovels: The multifunctional and sustainable state-of-the-art smart building – which has been integrally designed with BIM and with the support of the specialist design companies ATP sustain and ATP health – is scheduled for completion in 2022.
The Chairman of ABB’s Executive Board, Markus Ochsner, was delighted that the intense design phase has now been followed by the start of work on site. He spoke about “a building with charisma – and not just in terms of the architecture of its façade” – explaining that “the decisive thing is that the smart building will support modern ways of operating and, hence, creative working. In this sense it will become a magnet for innovative minds and strengthen our position as an attractive employer.”
In order to ensure that the building is a flagship project in the area of smart building, the entire portfolio of the technology company was incorporated into its design. The spatial concept is based on the idea of Activity Based Working and employees were involved in the detailed planning from the very start.
As a “Gateway to Mannheim”, the building will become a new architectural highlight for the city. By bringing activities together at its historic facility in Mannheim-Käfertal, the ABB Group is showing its strong commitment to the location, was the delighted reaction of Mayor Peter Kurz.
