New industrial kitchen for Caritas

1st prize for the operating concept for a central kitchen for Caritas

ATP Vienna - in cooperation with ATP sustain - won a competition for the central kitchen of Caritas in the Archdiocese of Vienna. The facility in Vienna’s 23rd district should prepare and send out up to 25,000 meals per week using a cook & chill process. The upper level is to contain office and ancillary spaces for the magdas administration. ATP Vienna designed a logistically functioning building that focuses on the needs of people. The flexible spatial structure simplifies circulation and facilitates flexible working. By creating an additional free space of 1,000m2 the client wishes to retain the opportunity to react to later use requirements on the site.

ATP’s design concept picks up on the current trend towards recycling and upgrading materials. An example of this is the use of external façade panels made of 100 % recycled plastic. Given that the issue of sustainability is such a key issue for the client we developed a well-founded energy concept together with ATP sustain. This relies primarily on the use of existing resources and sources of energy such as the recovery and use of the heat produced during the operation of the building. The ÖGNB awarded its sustainability certificate to the new industrial kitchen from Caritas.

Competition team: Reiner Horst, Dario Travas, Katharina Schmidt, Grankov Damjan, Adrijana Bajric, Georg Lorenz, Leuthner Norbert, Michael Haugeneder, Katharina Thullner, Tobias Hutter, Florian Stift
