2012-09-06 Opening of ZTC Rijeka
Rijeka, 6th September 2012– The story behind the creation of the shopping centre, which enjoys a spectacular location on a hilly outcrop above the harbour with extensive sea views, is long and varied. But now the “Shopping Centre in the West” (ZTC) has opened after 2½ years on site.
The powerful form of the glistening golden metal volume on its grey plinth is a stylisation of the surrounding Karst landscape and can be seen, due to its exposed position, from long distances. Three floors of shops containing 20.000 m2 of retail space – which are connected by atria and lightwells, skylights and panorama glazing - offer visitors a very special experience. The close identification with Rijeka and its history can be seen in the architecture of the building – as can also references to the location (sea, harbour, city, mountains).
The centre was integrally designed by ATP Vienna and ATP Zagreb. ATP’s Croatian office is the only integrated design office in Croatia and, indeed, the entire CEE Region and offers integrated design services for complex building projects. The construction of the ZTC Rijeka offered optimal opportunities to demonstrate this ability.
