Opening of E-Center by EDEKA Südbayern
Gaimersheim, 13th April 2016 – The new E-Center, a modern supermarket from EDEKA Südbayern, has been ceremoniously presented to the public. Around 200 invited guests from politics, business and the church came to experience the elegant market with its timber roof structure and transparent atrium.
The E-Center was designed by ATP architects engineers (Munich) on the basis of a new concept developed by EDEKA Südbayern. This was the first opportunity to use standard architectural details developed by ATP in its winning entry to a 2012 study competition. Amongst other things the competition was based on Corporate Architecture Guidelines which ATP defined for EDEKA Südbayern in 2006.
According to ATP’s project leader, the architect Michaela Hauser, “while the design of each center is fully in line with the corporate design of EDEKA Südbayern, the case-by-case application of the features developed jointly with the client enables each market to have its own appropriate, individual concept, specially developed for its location.”
The EDEKA Südbayern Group consists of around 1,250 EDEKA outlets of which around 1,100 are run by around 930 independent retailers. The other supermarkets are autonomously managed by three fully owned subsidiaries of EDEKA Südbayern. From its headquarters on the Danube in Gaimersheim, just outside Ingolstadt, the group serves all of Southern Bavaria. If one includes the autonomously managed markets, EDEKA Südbayern provides jobs for around 20,000 people.
