2012.10-17 "2411" District and Cultural Centre

Ceremonial opening by Mayor Ude of the new cultural and district centre in the North of Munich

Munich, 17.10.2012– The new focus for the Munich district of Hasenbergl was commissioned by the DIBAG and designed by ATP Munich.
The architect Thomas Mattesich, ATP Partner and Managing Director of ATP Munich, gave the mayor and other interested guests a tour of the building. “By creating such a generous series of spaces and by orienting ourselves towards the newly created urban square we have succeeded in bringing air, light and warmth into the building. It was particularly important to us to create a meeting place for all local people which brought an identity, added-value and sustainable uses to the Hasenbergl district.” In his opening speech Mayor Ude showed great interest in the architectural concept and praised the commitment of all those involved. After the blessing of the building by Christian and Muslim leaders, it was filled by enthusiastic locals of all ages.
The Cultural Centre offers space for a city library, the Munich adult education institute, a large meeting room with stage and smaller rooms for groups and for such initiatives as the “Stadtteilkultur 2411” cultural association. The attached local shopping centre is conceived as a covered market place and consists of an EDEKA supermarket and a row of smaller shops gathered together below a large grassed roof. The architecture was developed in line with the new design approach created by ATP for all the supermarkets of EDEDKA Süd.
