Under the Sign of the Dragon

The Shopping Center in Ljubljana has been named “ALEJA”. News about progress on site.

Ljubljana, 9th April 2019 – In a press conference, SES Spar European Shopping Centers spoke about the progress of the construction of Slovenia’s most state-of-the-art shopping center and also took the opportunity to unveil its name: ALEJA. In Slovenian this means “alley”, an urban place for meeting and taking a stroll, somewhere to relax in the heart of the district of Šiška. Integrally designed by ATP Innsbruck the multifunctional center, which is being created in partnership with the developer and owner client SES and, with 80 shops, themed restaurants, a children’s world, an “activity roof”, and a pump track on the forecourt, will meet every leisure need.

Façade as highlight
High-quality local materials and conscious architectural references to the urban-poetic charm of downtown Ljubljana lend the center an extraordinary character. “The motif of the dragon, the heraldic animal of Ljubljana, plays a role throughout the design of the building,” says Lead Project Manager Philipp Pfister of ATP Innsbruck, about the concept. “The long building volume of the shopping center recalls a sleeping dragon surrounded by greenery.” Diamond-shaped stainless steel tiles in three tones and four different finishes make up the scaly skin of the façade, which will shimmer in a range of changing colors depending upon the incident light. The opening is planned for 2020.
