Rijeka – Capital of Culture 2020

Final presentation and open discussion

Vienna, 15th January 2018 – Vienna’s Institute for Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design and the Croatian Center invited people to take part in a one-day cultural event “Rijeka Open City”. Head of Design Dario Travas and the architect Hannes Achammer participated on behalf of ATP Vienna, debating with students about the development potential of the historic port city that is economically stagnating as a result of continuous migration.

I really appreciate the fact that ATP Vienna has participated in our event and believe that companies should increasingly support university activities. This is why I’m delighted to be part of both the university and ATP”, said university lecturer Robert Tomic, who is active as a team architect at ATP Vienna, referring to the intense cooperation.

Rijeka Open City is the third in the series of “design” projects at Vienna University of Technology that have been initiated by Robert Tomic, Christoph Luchsiner (ETH Zurich) and Nela Kadic (University of Vienna) and address the subject of the Cultural Capital 2020. Building on concepts from countless workshops, students develop a range of strategies for promoting future quality of life and urban vitality. As part of a final presentation they were also able to present their study projects to representatives from the fields of politics, business and academia.

That was just the beginning! We’re highly motivated and full of energy”, were the words with which Robert Tomic brought the intensive evening’s discussion to a close. “Our aim is to turn this wonderful concept into reality – in every imaginable way and every shape and form.”
