Reopening of “Sun Plaza”

ATP Vienna planned the remodeling and refurbishment of the shopping center.

Bucharest, 22nd March 2018 – The Sun Plaza shopping center in Bucharest has been given an artistically ambitious and functionally high quality upgrade. “The look and feel of Sun Plaza addresses both the needs of the customers and the latest trends. The refurbishment takes the shopping experience to the next level. It has transformed the shopping center into an attractive place for the whole city” reports a delighted Friedrich Wachernig from our client S IMMO AG.

The skillful alteration of the route and the shopfronts in the mall created space for 40 new shops. The remodeling produced 11,000 additional square meters of retail space.

ATP Vienna was commissioned to redesign the shopping center without interrupting normal operations as a result of its success in a competition. "The refurbishment of Sun Plaza was one of Rumania’s largest shopping center projects,” explains the architect Heinz Lindner, Associate Partner of ATP Vienna. Almost half of the existing area was completely revitalized. The refurbishment transformed Sun Plaza into a highly efficient building complex. In design terms the integration of installations by the artist Peter Kogler played a key role. “Art is not condemned to remain in museums alone,” believes Lindner. “There are also so many ways in which it can touch our daily lives.”
