International BIM specialists on the methodology and added value of BIM
Vienna, 17th November 2014 – The subject of BIM was addressed in 16 lectures from a wide range of perspectives. ATP CEO Christoph M. Achammer and Alois Salzburger, the company’s Head of Structural Engineering in Innsbruck, were invited to offer an insight into their more than seven years’ experience of working with BIM and to illustrate the necessary requirements for its successful implementation. Further subjects such as the perspectives for Open BIM and the Austrian BIM Norms were also discussed.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Christoph M. Achammer who, in his role as Professor for Industrial Building and Interdisciplinary Planning at Vienna University of Technology, intensively studies the issues of integrated design, BIM and building lifecycles. In his lecture he explained how BIM supports the integrated design process at ATP and the importance of this design tool for the lifecycle-oriented design of buildings. He considers that it is important to implement organizational measures and creation new structures if BIM is to be successfully implemented: “The switch from CAD to BIM”, explained Achammer, “creates problems for nearly every office. This means that intensive training programs are essential. But it is worth all the hard work. In comparison with a traditional design approach one can expect time savings of 20–30 per cent.”
