Carinthian Timber Construction Prize 2021
The office building for the timber company Theurl convinced the jury as a “flagship project for contemporary timber architecture”
“Who, if not a timber building company, is predestined to turn the expansion of their own company headquarters into a flagship project for the potential of contemporary timber architecture” – these were the words with which the jury justified their award of the Carinthian Timber Construction Prize 2021 to the headquarters of the timber company Theurl, which were integrally designed by ATP. The office building was submitted in the “commercial buildings” category, in which 90 projects were submitted and 28 received a nomination.
The cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements used in the building were manufactured just 200 meters away in the company’s own production building. It’s hard to be more sustainable than that! This means that the climate and the environment are the winners – and now the designers and the client, too: “The timber surfaces from the company’s own production plant and the reserved yet elegant interior design combine with the lofty spaces and an open office layout, which reinforces the potential for future restructuring, to create a generous sense of space and working environment. Overall, this is an ideal building for state-of-the-art administration and, at the same time, the perfect advertisement for timber construction,” continued the jury.
The prize is awarded every two years by proHolz Kärnten, the organization that represents the Carinthian forestry and timber industry. The award ceremony took place on 4th November 2021 in Architektur Haus Kärnten in Klagenfurt.
