New heart for an urban district

1st prize for ATP in a bidder consortium with the landscape architects Logo verde

ATP Munich and Logo verde convinced the jury of the ideas competition for the new urban heart of Nuremburg’s Thon district. The central objective of the public urban design competition was to develop an appropriate overall concept for a new district center in the city’s north-western suburbs. The key challenges were to create an entrance ensemble for the district and a number of diverse and usable public spaces.

The design by ATP Munich envisages an urban structure that can provide space for a balanced range of uses. It consciously promotes equality of opportunity and makes positive use of existing infrastructure. A special feature is the newly-established connecting green axes. According to the competition jury, the urban design proposal of the bidder consortium is “carefully developed, while the convincing higher-level spatial system, the well-located district square and the perfect sense of scale represent a major contribution to the solution of the design challenge which lies at the heart of the competition.”
