OMV, Main Building, Schwechat, AT
1st Prize, invited competition
The urban design concept by ATP Vienna positions the new OMV office building directly adjacent to the entry to the refinery site where its powerful sculptural form interacts harmoniously with the existing structures. Four interwoven building volumes appear to float above each other and combine into an inviting gesture to create a dramatic entrée. The building, which is visible from as far away as the motorway, has an adaptable façade which is inspired by the idea of speed and a fascination with mobility.
The design by ATP convinced the jury as a result of its high design quality and a level of functionality which is precisely aligned with a range of operational processes. The structural engineering solution enables the office areas to be largely column free as a result of which they can be occupied with great flexibility. Special attention was paid to the bright character of the offices. The views into the leafy internal courtyards create new and varied spatial connections and relationships.
