Markas, Headquarters
1st Prize, invited competition
ATP Innsbruck convinced the jury with its entry to the invited competition for a new headquarters for the company Markas, an internationally active service provider in Bolzano with over 8,000 employees. As well as meeting the needs of the growing company, the building was also required to act as a link with - or a landmark for - the center of Bolzano to the west. ATP proposed a building volume with good urban proportions.
“Our basic idea was to mold the volume defined by the zoning plan in such a way that the permitted height of 40 meters could be fully exploited without creating a tower which is to slender to be financially feasible”, explained the architect Paul Ohnmacht, Head of Design at ATP Innsbruck. “Hence, we designed from top to bottom, leaving the lower floors open for a later densification process.
The office building is flexible and designed without columns and should be accessed from a generous forecourt. An open garden accessible via a spiral stair from the canteen level is planned above the first floor. This area offers not only enormous potential for work breaks and events but also the opportunity to work surrounded by greenery.
