1st Prize Eichplatz, Jena, DE

ATP Frankfurt and OFB win the competition for a city center district.

After a multi-stage investor selection process, the concept by ATP Frankfurt/OFB for the redesign of the Eichplatz was selected for realization by Jena city council. The 1.5 hectare site which has been empty for 40 years is to be transformed into a state-of-the-art green city center district whose urban diversity will guarantee a high quality of life to future generations.

The design was inspired by the existing mix of buildings in which classical historical architecture is combined with modern influences. A stimulating mix of residential and retail space with restaurants and public open space offers streets for strolling in, inviting squares for relaxing in, green courtyards and terraced roof gardens.  The project proposes around 100 apartments and 30 retail units.
The project was certified in line with the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The sustainable integrated concept reduces CO2 emissions and, hence, ensures lower long-term operating costs.
