1st Prize ZKB Steinfels, Zurich, CH

An invited integrated designer competition was held for the design of an innovative, purpose-built commercial and residential building with an optimum level of flexibility.

The symmetrical basilica typology of the new building set out in the masterplan was changed in order to improve the office spaces. The eight and 14 meter deep office wings are separated by a large and attractive daylight-filled atrium.

Very wide passages with recreational areas connect the two office wings. The removal of one story from the narrower wing of the building which is oriented to the courtyard made a huge improvement in the illumination from the northeast as well as creating a roof terrace which can be used as an external space by the approximately 750 employees. The ground floor contains the 200-seat bistro and three seminar rooms as well as other meeting rooms and office space.

The four uppermost stories are used exclusively as offices. The building is certified in line with MINERGIE® standards.
