Energy Globe Award 2007, 2nd Prize
The ATRIO shopping centre in Villach, designed by ATP, was awarded the 2nd prize and regional prize for Carinthia in the 2007 edition of the Energy Globe Awards, the World Award for Sustainability, with special mention being made of the “Energy Piles and Energy Efficiency in the ATRIO Shopping Centre”. The energy concept for the building developed by the mechanical and electrical engineers of ATP used most of the foundation piles of the building as “energy piles” as a means of gathering heat energy from the surrounding ground. The result is an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of 853 tonnes.
