TRIGOS CSR/Ecology ATRIO, Villach, AT
The ATRIO shopping centre in Villach, Austria, designed by ATP, has received the TRIGOS prize, an award to mark the social responsibility of companies who address social and ecological issues in more depth than is required of them by law. 2008 saw the introduction of a new category of award – Ecology – for companies who integrate environmentally relevant strategies into their core processes and implement measures to protect the climate, develop innovative ideas in the area of environmental technology and promote the use of renewable energies. Built on “glowing” piles, ATRIO gains energy from the ground which results in an annual saving of 500 tonnes of CO2 compared with an equivalent building built using standard technologies.
TRIGOS is the third environmental prize awarded to the energy concept of ATRIO in the last six months.
