Planning, Expansion, Revitalization, and Renovation of a Shopping Center

The SILLPARK

For over three decades, we have been involved in the planning of the success story of the inner-city retail complex SILLPARK in Innsbruck. The revitalizations included not only an extension but also several design, functional, and technical renewals while operations continued.

Construction and Expansion 1990-2007
As the largest construction project in the city, the SILLPARK, planned by ATP architects and engineers, opened its doors in 1990. Its name is derived from the Sill River, which supplies the mall with electricity through an in-house power plant. The latter was planned as part of a significant expansion in 2007, based on our competition win in 2004.

The four-story monolithic annex is a structural feature with a 35-meter-wide and column-free 18-meter cantilevered structure. A loop inside connects the new part with the existing section of the center. In addition to shop, food court, and mall areas, an event hall, a childcare facility, and a public kindergarten were realized as part of the expansion. The extroverted language of the annex with its translucent facade intentionally contrasts with the introverted original building influenced by postmodernism. With integrated lighting technology for around 1,200 meters of LED lighting, the new construction also gives the entire complex a characteristic appearance at night.
